Leather Recliner Care and Maintenance

So, despite all of your carefulness, you finally spilled a soft drink on your new recliners. Do not panic! Leather is easy to care for, despite those (hopefully) infrequent mishaps. Leather is a natural substance which repels both liquid and odor, but that does not mean there are not steps that you can take to both effectively clean and care for your furniture.

Watch Out for the Flying Mustard!
It is inevitable that spills will happen from time to time. Here are some steps to follow when cleaning up after a mess:

  • If noticed immediately, blot spills with a clean cloth or sponge.
  • If the spill went unnoticed for a period of time, apply a small amount of mild soap and water or club soda to the area and rub gently in one direction.
  • Let the area dry naturally. Do not use a blow dryer or rub the spot excessively.
  • If the stain persists, consider using a leather cleaner (especially for ink, grease or blood stains). Carefully follow the manufacturer's directions. Always check for color steadfastness. Some products may cause discoloration!

Another Day, Another Pristine Piece of Furniture
Even if you have managed to avoid an accident, leather still needs to be cared for. A weekly cleaning is recommended, as well as a more thorough cleaning several times a year, particularly in high-use areas. And because leather grows richer in age--developing a pristine luster and becoming softer and more supple--you will want to make sure you treat your leather well!

Here Are Some Tips for Caring and Cleaning Your Contemporary Recliner:

  • Keep your leather recliner out of direct sunlight. Direct exposure will cause leather to become discolored and faded over time.
  • Do not place your furniture next to a heat source. Heat can cause the leather to become dry and cracked.
  • Dust and vacuum leather on a regular basis.
  • Use a high-quality leather conditioner and protectant four times a year.
